Hypochlorous Acid (HOCl)

Hypochlorous acid (HOCl) is a weak acid and a naturally occurring antimicrobial molecule produced by white blood cells. Because of its broad-spectrum activity and favorable safety profile, it has been used for over a century as a disinfectant. As the most biocidal form of free chlorine, HOCl can achieve rapid pathogen reduction at concentrations far lower than those typically required by conventional bleach-based disinfectants, while being gentler on users and many surfaces.

Powerful pathogen control at low concentrations, with a favorable safety profile for users and many surfaces.

Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH)

Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) is a strong base and one of the most widely used cleaning compounds in industry. Generated on-site through the electrolysis of water and salt, it provides elevated alkalinity that effectively removes fats, proteins, organic residues, and biofilms from surfaces and equipment. Because of its cleaning performance and compatibility with clean-in-place (CIP) processes, catholyte can reduce dependence on conventional caustic chemicals while providing an efficient, non-toxic approach to cleaning and surface preparation.

Powerful pathogen control at low concentrations, with a favorable safety profile for users and many surfaces.

Offshore
Drilling

Reduce the Environmental Footprint of Offshore Drilling Vessels - Replace conventional chemical dependency with low-impact solutions generated onboard from salt water and electricity.
Eliminate Explosion Risk from Stored Sanitation Chemicals - Remove the need to keep hazardous chemical inventories onboard for routine cleaning, sanitation, and odor control.
Continuous Odor Control Without Operational Disruption - Run odor-control equipment continuously or perform periodic full-facility fogging without removing crew, plants, or animals from the vessel. Safe for breathing.
Vessel-Level Sustainability Metrics - Turn chemical reduction, packaging avoidance, safer storage, wastewater quality, and reduced handling exposure into measurable environmental indicators.
Reduced Offshore Spill Exposure - Minimize chemical spill risk by reducing the amount of stored liquid chemicals moved, handled, and transferred across the vessel.
Lower Contractor Chemical Variability - Bring outsourced cleaning, sanitation, odor control, and hospitality services under a consistent environmental standard using fully non-toxic pathogen-control solutions generated onboard.
Protect the Ocean from Wastewater Impact - Support treated wastewater quality capable of meeting strict disposal standards, including requirements for soil application on land.
Does your vessel operate with biological wastewater system? We protect it! Biological treatment depends on bacteria. Harsh chemicals, disinfectants, degreasers, quats, chlorine products, solvents, and incompatible cleaners can disrupt microbial balance if they enter the wastewater stream in meaningful amounts.
Reduce Offshore Waste Generation - Minimize drums, bottles, refills, packaging, labels, pallets, and chemical containers created by routine vessel operations.
Reduced Supply-Chain Environmental Impact - Cut the upstream footprint of manufacturing, packaging, transporting, and replenishing conventional chemicals for offshore use.

Clinical Application

Safer healthcare starts
with smarter disinfection

Hospitals require effective pathogen control without introducing unnecessary toxicity into sensitive environments. On-site generated HOCl provides a powerful solution for routine disinfection while supporting safer environments for patients, staff, and visitors.

Safe Enough for Neonatal Units

Clinical evidence indicates that pure hypochlorous acid (HOCl) can be used safely in neonatal care environments, including settings involving premature infants. Studies show effective microbial control without harmful side effects.

Stopping Cross-Contamination

Manual cleaning alone left bacteria on nearly half of the tested surfaces. When HOCl fogging was introduced, cross-contamination was eliminated.

CRUISE SHIPS

Cleaner operations
from ship to shore

Leveraging the Ocean’s Most Abundant Resource

Eliminate concerns related to chemical storage, replenishment, and supply chain disruptions by generating fresh cleaning and sanitizing solutions directly on board.

Using salt water—one of the most abundant resources available at sea—ECA technology provides virtually unlimited access to chemistry without sacrificing valuable storage space or increasing logistical complexity.

Protecting VSP Performance

Fresh chemistry generated on board supports sanitation across galleys, warewashing operations, potable water systems, ice handling equipment, buffet areas, and public spaces—helping maintain continuous VSP readiness.

Supporting Outbreak Prevention

Scale sanitation programs immediately during periods of elevated gastrointestinal activity without concerns related to chemical availability or logistics.

Occupied-space fogging, source odor elimination, and residue-free sanitation support rapid response protocols while allowing passenger and crew areas to remain fully operational.

Simplifying Hotel Operations

Support housekeeping, galley, laundry, provision stores, spas, crew accommodations, and public spaces with a unified cleaning and sanitizing approach. Reducing chemical complexity simplifies procedures, training requirements, and day-to-day execution across hotel operations.

Odor Management

Unlike fragrances and masking agents, ECA technology addresses odor at its source by eliminating odor-causing microorganisms and oxidizing the compounds responsible for unpleasant smells. The result is effective odor control without perfumes, irritating compounds, or lingering residues.

Applications include waste rooms, drains, laundries, crew spaces, and other enclosed environments where odor complaints are common.

Occupied-Space Fogging

Traditional disinfectants often require area isolation and post-treatment waiting periods. At typical fogging concentrations, ECA technology enables occupied-space applications without disrupting operations.

Solutions can be fogged in the presence of people, plants, and animals, leaving no harmful residues and presenting no contact risk. This capability supports continuous pathogen control and odor management throughout the vessel without affecting passenger or crew activities.

Protecting Marine Assets

Reduce the burden associated with aggressive chemical programs on stainless steel, fixtures, drains, soft finishes, and food service equipment. Non-toxic solutions help preserve marine assets while maintaining high sanitation standards.
